Origin of World Standards Day

WORLD STANDARDS DAY

From October 14 to 26, 1946, 64 representatives from 25 countries, including China, Britain, the United States, France, and the Soviet Union, gathered in London and formally voted to establish the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). On February 23, 1947, the ISO International Organization for Standardization was officially established. In September 1969, the ISO Council issued resolution 1969/59, which decided to designate October 14 as World Standards Day every year.

On 14 October 1970, the first worldwide celebration of World Standards Day was held. The purpose of World Standards Day is to raise awareness of the importance of international standardization in the world economy in order to promote the adaptation of international standardization to the needs of business, industry, government and consumers worldwide. This international holiday is a gift to the thousands of volunteers around the world who work on standardization.

Today (14 October) is the 55th World Standards Day. The National Standards Committee has identified the theme of this year's World Standards Day in China as "Strengthening Standard Guidance and Promoting High-quality Development". China's economy is in a period of transformation and development, and strengthening the guidance of standards is of great significance for developing new quality productivity, building a new development pattern, and promoting high-quality development.
